Scripture Interpretation and Meditation Paper 2

Scripture Interpretation and Meditation Paper 2

Q Scripture Interpretation and Meditation Paper #2 For this SIM paper, do the following steps: 1. Lectio Divina: Open the Lectio Divina Sheet and read about the Lectio Divina meditation process. This is an important part of the interpretive process. (You will apply Lectio Divina when writing every SIM from now onward.) 2. Read Psalm 1 a few times, applying Lectio Divina to your time in this passage. 3. Try to analyze the whole of Psalm 1, seeing if you can explain how each part of the psalm develops the overall meaning. Are there any patterns you see in the structure, are there any themes highlighted? Doing an analysis of the passage (discussing its meaning) is another important part of the interpretive process. You will be doing this kind of analysis in every SIM from now onward 4. Create a 'Big Idea' statement. Now, try to summarize the main idea of Psalm 1 into one sentence. (See Russell p. 65-67, 278 for more explanation of this sentence.) You will need to have spent time reading and re-reading the passage in order to come up with this statement. Make your statement stand out so that we can find it (label it or place it in bold or italics). 5. Application: Finally, spend some time reflecting on how the meaning of Psalm 1 applies specifically to your life and your walk with God. Spend some time praying as you do this step. 6. Write your SIM: When you have completed Steps 1-5, write a 1-2 page paper on your findings. Be sure to include these 3 parts in your paper: • Your analysis of Psalm 1 • Your Big Idea statement • Your reflections on how Psalm 1 applies to your life and walk with God. While writing this part, be sure to give evidence of having applied Lectio Divina to your time in the passage. You can include phrases such as "During my time of meditation," or "In Lectio Divina..." SIM #2 should be 1-2 pages typed, double-spaced. Submit by 11:59 pm tonight. Late papers will incur a deduction.

My analysis of Psalm 1 – This Psalm provides insights to every Christian about the ways in which a believer can be blessed, righteous and deserving to be protected and judged fairly by God. The judgment for righteous Christians by God will be in favor of such Christians and they will be considered deserving to be united with God in Heaven. Moreover, there is guidance of the lives of these Christians by God willingly. There is importance given in this Psalm about human beings showing obedience to the law of God by incorporating the law in every decision and action taken by the human beings.
